Truckee Fire Protection Grants

forest of pine trees

The Truckee Fire Protection District will be offering grants to homeowners, local agencies and HOAs over the next several months to improve wildfire preparedness in the Truckee area.

About the Program

The grant program will enhance existing forest management and fuel reduction, while funding resources like fire detection technology and hardening of structures against wildfires. Projects or activities that support community awareness and planning will also be considered for the grant program.

The program is funded by Measure T, passed in 2021 and which levies a special yearly tax of $179 per parcel. It created an annual $3.7 million Community Wildfire Prevention Fund that is used for fuel reduction and wildfire prevention. Up to $550,000 will allocated to the grant program for the fiscal year of 2025/2026.

Truckee Fire intends to fund 2-5 high quality projects in the District, there is no minimum or maximum funding request for this round of solicitation. The total allocation for the Grant Program budget is subject to change at Truckee Fire’s discretion.

Program Requirements

Projects are limited to the geographic area of the Truckee Fire Protection District. Those who are eligible to apply include private, non-industrial landowners, local agencies and special districts.

Eligible projects must fall into one of the following categories: Forest Fuels Reduction, Community Wildfire Preparedness, or Wildfire Prevention Education. Fuel Reduction has a 5-acre minimum, and neighbors are encouraged to come together to meet that requirement.
